Lent is a Time to Trust

3/28/2015

As we come to the close of our Lenten season, we see that there is plenty of reason for confidence and trust. That’s not the message that we are hearing on the news every morning, but it is true! Yes the economy is in a slump, unemployment is up, and disasters around the world continue to happen daily. The world has always experienced some kind of turmoil, and that hasn’t stopped God from blessing his people and giving us reason to trust him. Many Christians and we too have professed belief in God and in his promises, yet we focus more on the continuous barrage of negative information that confronts us each day through television and the internet. We become overshadowed by feelings of doubt, worry and fear about our present situation. If there was ever a time for believers to worry, it would have been when Christ was crucified. On several occasions Jesus reassured his disciples that he was doing God’s will—even when things seemed unbearably bleak. We all have events in our lives that seem to cause more pain than we can bear. For the disciples it was the crucifixion , for us it could be the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or a financial crisis. The disciples were scared and afraid to go out after Jesus died, but three days later the risen Savior stepped into their presence and proclaimed “ Peace be with you! ”(John 20:19) He is always at work– using the circumstances of your life to bring joy out of darkness. Even from the deepest loss. Whatever your situation, God is not only aware of it he is at work to bring a resurrection into your life. YES! There is plenty of reason to Trust God through our desert experiences. May Your Lenten Journey bring you into the glorious resurrection of the greatest event that ever happened.

May The Lord Bless and Keep You,
Rev. Stephen W. Barch
